I love the UK band Goldfrapp and can listen to them for long periods at a time. While the majority of their tunes are great, FELT MOUNTAIN is something that I hold near and dear to me. As a James Bond devotee, the Felt Mountain style strikes a cord that the later BLACK CHERRY album did not. Sultry, smooth songs like Lovely Head and Pilots have a James Bond movie theme song feel that I absolutely love. The tunes drift through the air like smoke and manage to calm me down no matter how hard a day I might be having.  The music is cinematic and they do some amazing things with Alison Goldfrapp’s voice.
I guess I was the only one that liked the dulcet tones, however. The album was a top 75 in the UK and the music critics received it well. It was described as “simultaneously smarmy and seductive, yet elegant and graceful”. ((LeMay, Matt. “Goldfrapp: Felt Mountain (Mute)”. Pitchfork Media. 31 December 1999))

I guess my buying a copy in 2003 didn’t help the initial sales.
