I was lucky enough to see THE DEAD OUTSIDE at it’s North American premiere here in San Francisco and it was well worth checking out.
The story involves – yes, I know – a plague that breaks out in Scotland that has people going crazy and trying to kill whomever they run into. A man flees his small town and heads further out into the countryside, eventually running out of gas and happening upon a small farmhouse out in the middle of nowhere. The farmhouse’s owner let’s him stay over begrudgingly, keeping to herself mostly. They get to know each other while keeping…the dead outside.
DEAD has a slow pace and is a highly character driven, story based “plague” movie that falls into the 28 DAYS LATER area, but it doesn’t have the crazy running “infected” going on. It takes it’s time telling the story and letting things develop. I believe it’s the directorial debut of Kerry Anne Mullaney who also wrote the screenplay. A dark, bleak little tale. I liked it a lot.
