Tripping the Muse Fantastic

by Orsolya Jakabne

Hello, kis babák!

It’s been a long long while since I have checked in with you all!

So, it looks like I may be going to see Wax Tailor in PARIS! Mi van?!  YES! PARIS! A small group of us are going to venture and stop in for a bite at Délicieux – of course, yes? Then we will be off to see Wax at the Olympia!

L’OLYMPIA
28, BD DES CAPUCINES
75009 PARIS 09

Those in the know can contact me on my covert Twitter account to arrange a meeting if you are going as well.

It dawned on me that some of you may not be familiar with Wax Tailor or some of the other groovies that are around these days. So, I thought I would take it upon myself to enlighten those who were not aware and rejoice with those who were already fans.

This music strikes me ad strikes me hard. ( In all the right places, babák! )  While working, it fills the bored side of my brain with musical nourishment that keeps me rolling, happy and deliciously productive.

I’ve had the chance to enlist malcojojo in this world as well, so stay tuned for possible Bay Area trip hop adventures in the near future!

Comments desired – I’d love to know what you think of this musical selection of some of my favorites at the moment!

Be good!
Orsolya

Wax Tailor – Que Sera

The video uses METROPOLIS in a wonderful way, mixing in a little Doris Day singing her version of Que Sera Sera to some new style beats. An inventive and fun mixer that flows very well. http://www.waxtailor.com/

DJ Shadow – The Organ Donor

Yes, and organ used in some fun trip hop madness. I think this is the first time I’ve heard a classic organ used this way in this style of music and I love it. More please. And the video itself is David Lynch meets old Hammer Horror films. Niiiice. http://www.djshadow.com/

Quantic – Infinite Regression

More sound snippets are blended with a grooving music bed as the trippy talk fills your head with…strange.

Soul Position – Survival

RJD2 fans will feel his style in this cinematic stomp through a music-scape filled with scratches, rap, and some fun music samples. A driving beat that mixes it up enough to be interesting and fun.

Cut Chemist – (My 1st)  ) Big Break

This wonderfully wacky and simple video makes me happy. Comic call outs and robots abound. They look like they had a lot of fun making it. It rolls well with the music and the “gimmick” adds an interesting layer to the whole piece. http://www.cutchemist.com/

Dj Shadow & Cut Chemist – Part 1

Here we get to see the two artists mixing it up together on one stage using 45rpm records. A team effort that blows me away every time I see it. One rolls out a series of 45s while the other searches for the next round he wants to play. The crowd loves it and cheers them on as the team-up continues. Very cool to see.

BONUS ROUND! More DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist
